Match report The short sharp shock match report...We won.

Last weeks match report was described as a 'shock' by all of its readers, implying that it was very different to what they are used to reading. So because of the responses that have been received I will take that as a negative and revert back to the original style or reporting on the matches.(Unless I hear something to the contrary over the next hour)

The hour is up...Don't say you didn't have your chance!!!

Before the match began...in fact a week earlier, the normal opener for Wanstead Over 40's decided he was going to wash his hair and not play, so JC was replaced with Richard Walsh. And despite whatever you read further in this report, we would all like to thank Richard for answering the call up and playing really well. So 'Thank you Richard, you played hard and really got into the banter of the Over 40's. I will also like to thank all of the other players but I find my fingers cant truly type out the words to do so...must be some sort of immune response to the thought of acknowledging them and their tremendous efforts, or even thanking them for racing back from work, getting into a car and driving 40 miles around the M25 and A12 to hit a plastic ball and laughing loads because of the fun we have. No I cant see me doing that at all...not at all.

And so ...the match and a version of what happened. Obviously there will be other versions, but this is the definitive version. There will be a version out there at some point that will say that Alan Lord got 4 wickets and a couple of catches and that as much as the rest of us will deny it, but that his contribution probably does deserve 'Man of the match'. But like i have hinted at, this will not be the definitive. The only definitive version is the one you will be reading here and now and its saying that Alan was very lucky to get anything and to say that he got 4 wickets and catches and laughable. All of the wickets were shared by all of the bowlers and that the only truly extraordinary occurrence of the evening was when the keeper took an amazing pickup from a wide delivery down the leg side. In fact there was nothing really to talk about that the readers will want to hear about. The mere fact that Richard fielded like the 'sugar plum fairy' the way he pranced around the hall and missed an really easy catch and gave away a six in consequence. That's what this definitive version says, other less definitive will say that Richard was jumping around trying to stop a good shot from the batsman and was trying to catch the ball that Matloob should have caught but missed because he was wearing his glasses. School boy error that made Richard look bad
