Match report Saffron Walden won the toss and put Wanstead in, not unexpectedly as they have consistently been a strong batting side. The wicket took turn from the start and runs were hard to come by with Wanstead reaching a very modest 29 for 1 after the powerplay. Things got no better as despite starts by Feroze, Bilal and Saurav, the total was only 87 for 6 after 17 overs. A late flurry by Nabeel, Faheem and Finlay dragged the final score to 110 for 8, the lowest by a good margin that this side has ever made. The second innings promised to be ...challenging...

With the lesson from our group matches in mind that poor totals can be defended, the side set out to play to the strength of our fielding. Opening the attack, Jayden produced another astonishing 4 overs, claiming 3 wickets for 13 runs. Backed up by a tight 4 overs for 18 from Nabeel and two exceptional run outs from Feroze and Faheem, SW found themselves on 18 for 3 after the powerplay and only 35 for 5 after 10 overs. Once the 6th wicket partnership was broken in the 16th over with the score on 61, the Wanstead total never looked under threat and the SW innings closed on 86 for 9 after 20 overs.

This season has shown a complete reversal of Wanstead fortunes with our batting, so dominant last year, misfiring and the team being rescued by several exceptional bowling performances and the consistently high quality of our fielding. Todays performance was a testament to the self belief that this team now enjoys and they should be congratulated on their magnificent effort. Now if we could only score some runs I could relax....;p
