Match report and so to the final...

Colchester survived a surprisingly close semi against West Ham and Stratford which ended in controversy, a factor that cannot have helped their players prepare for the Final. However, with the advantage of the toss, they elected to bat. Unlike Saffron Walden, the openers struggled to exploit the powerplay, perhaps conscious of their long tail. The loss of two wickets in the first 6 overs was probably more damaging than their low total of 28 but once the Wanstead spin triad had finished, Colchester were on substantially sub par 99 for 4 after 18 overs. The last two overs brought them a welcome 21 runs but further progress was denied by two wickets falling to Faheem off the last 2 balls of the innings.

With a low total to chase, it is tempting to avoid taking chances and try and slowly accumulate runs. Changing your playing style, however, can be horribly disruptive and the was nothing really to be gained by doing so. Once again, Waseem and Feroze produced another outstanding opening partnership, retiring on 50 and 51 respectively, leaving Saurav and Misem to gather the last dozen runs for victory and the Championship!

Two emphatically authoritative performances to round off an unbeaten season and confirm this side as one of the most exciting teams in the club to come and watch! Congratulations all - to the parents who have taken a keen interest, to Joe, Jonny Das, Matty and Arfan and also to the rest of the squad who have all played a huge part in getting the U19 side to the finals. Thanks everyone - let's start planning for next year.;p
