Match report With available dates being very limited now, we were fortunate to find a gap in the weather and complete our quarter-final on Sunday against Brentford who narrowly defeated a strong Old Chelmsfordians side earlier in the week. Winning the toss, Misem elected to bat. Waseem and Feroze took us to 53 for no loss off the powerplay, another excellent start. After Waseem was caught in the deep in the 8th over, Saurav and Feroze took the total to 85 in the 12th when a sharp caught behind claimed Feroze. Jack was also caught in the same over and we teetered once again on a midgame collapse. Saurav and Misen fell shortly afterwards leaving the total on a disappointing 102 for 5 in the 16th over. However, once again the depth of Wanstead's batting proved invaluable with Nabeel's intelligent 13 off 11 ensuing Jayden saw sufficient strike to club 36 off 14 deliveries before being bowled in the 19th over. The innings closed at 150 for 7 which given the wicket an unusually slow outfield, felt like a competitive total. Honours shared by the openers with setting a sound base for the innings and Jayden, who finished it as only he can.

Brentwood could scarcely have got off to a worse start, losing both openers in the first two overs and a third in the fifth, ending the powerplay at 30 for 3. It is becoming more and more evident how important this phase of play is as Brentwood, needing 7.5 and over at the start, now needed more than 8.6 an over for the next 14. An excellent fielding display saw Brentwood's batters kept under constant pressure with only Matthew Bell (33 from 27) having any degree of success. Standout performances from Jack with 3 catches and a run out and Aryan with 2 stumpings to back up the catch of the match. However, the star of the fielding performance was the overall *team* effort, focus and energy which brought compliments from numerous quarters, including the umpires. On the debit side, I will say only one word...*wides*
