Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won by 70 runs

Match report Feroze, captaining in place of the injured Misem, won the toss and Wanstead batted first, making an excellent 53 off the 6 powerplay overs for the loss of only 1 wicket. Feroze and Waseem took the total to 84 off 10 before Waseem retired. We then experienced a mini-collapse losing 5 wickets in the next 5 overs before Nabeel and Finlay saw the innings home to a total of 183 for 8.

The British Tamils drew on players from over 45 adult teams and many of their players were well known to the Wanstead team. Unfortunately, they started slowly, making only 25 off the powerplay, albeit for no loss. Having commenced the innings needing more than 9 an over, they now needed 11.4 and as wickets steadily fell, subsided to the surprisingly low total of 113 for 8. The team had never played together before and perhaps this was a factor.

However, our opponents were also unfortunate in meeting a Wanstead side that produced the best overall team performance we have *ever* seen from this age group in the years they have played for the club. Our innings was well constructed and apart from the rash of midgame wickets, we controlled the tempo of the batting. Our fielding was excellent and the backing up faultless. A genuine TEAM is starting to emerge and the players can be justly proud of their performance.
