Woodford Wells CC v Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Boys Under 13 A Div 1 on Tue 04 Jun 2013 at 18:00
Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club Won by 32 runs

Match report We all crammed into the Overton Drive TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space, for the uninitiated)and landed in the sunlit uplands of Loughton CC for the 2012 David Bradford Cup final held over from last year due to bad weather. We were all amazed at how much we had grown(kids up, coaches out)since last year. Captain Feroze completed his first task admirably by winning the toss and electing to bat on a sunny warm evening (2012- never!) and then took up openers duties with Aryan. After a couple of sighters, Feroze unleashed a barrage of attacking shots crossing the boundary six times in his 15 ball 30 when forced to retire. Afra came in and looked in good nick before taking on the fielder and losing when going for a quick single. Enter Sam and after an uncertain start he found his range hitting five fours to reach retirement in 23 balls. Aryan successfully completed his sheet anchor role which meant that three out of the top four were retired. The platform had been set for an assault in the final overs which was hoped would see the batting team well past the coaches' par score of 140. However, this did not really materialise until Aman smashed 3 consecutive sixes in the last over to get us past 150 and give the team the necessary momentum. The Wells reply was rocked early on as Michael struck in successive overs first hitting the stumps and then trapping the batsman in front. Still, after six overs Wells were only slightly behind on comparative scores. Accurate middle overs bowling from Nick and Afra supported by keen fielding meant that the opposition were not able to keep up with the required run rate. The pressure told and Wanstead took wickets at regular intervals including two run outs and an excellent return catch by Afra. Despite one or two brief flurries,Wanstead's score proved to be too much for Wells and the trophy was won. The performance prompted manager Mo to use words such as "professional" and "impressive" and indeed it was. The majority of this team has been together since the U11s and an appearance in last years National finals showed their mettle. An improving team there is surely more to come from them. Thanks go the umpires and Cliff and all at loughton for hosting the final and of course to the Woodford Wells team who were talented (and well mannered) opponents.
