Behaviour and Discipline

08 May 2018

The success of the club over a number of years has and continues to be a source of considerable satisfaction to our members and officials. We seek to achieve best practice both on and off the field of play and address instances where our standards do not meet expectations. One particular area of concern in recent seasons has been the conduct of some of our senior players. I believe that these shortcomings are the result of over enthusiasm rather than malicious intent. However, I am taking the following measures to confront what, at times, has clearly been unacceptable behaviour.

1. An internal disciplinary procedure will be established as a priority to address any complaints with regard to player conduct. While the substance of complaints will be considered there will be bias towards the opinion of umpires and other league officials.
2. Penalties, primarily in the nature of match bans, will be established. These normally will be more severe than penalties imposed under the league regulatory environment.
3. I will chair an internal club disciplinary panel to administer these requirements.

These measures will apply to club activities at all levels. In practice they are more likely to focus on the men’s 1st XI. I trust members will support this initiative to protect their club’s reputation.
